CommuCare Services Inc is a grass root organization with the goal to improve the well-being of immigrant women and children from Africa living in the Kansas City (KC) metropolitan area. Promoting women’s health is one of CommuCare Services Inc’s priorities. The organization was founded in 2007 and was born from the realization of the need for a social network and support system for immigrant women from Africa who struggle to adapt to a new lifestyle and culture in the United States of America (US). CommuCare’s activities focus on women’s health issues such as breast and cervical cancer, and the promotion of education and a healthy lifestyle among women and children. Immigrant women from sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) come from resource-limiting countries where women’s health programs are very limited or non-existent. Thus, most of these women have very little knowledge and awareness about breast cancer (BCA) and cervical cancer, and so could be at greater risk of these diseases.
